UNIFORM AND ACCOUTERMENTS GUIDELINES
The Basic Uniform || Additional Items || Recommended Sutlers

    The 21st Michigan strives to be an authentic Civil War regiment in both actions and appearance. The uniform and equipment must be authentic in form and materials for a proper and correct impression. It is recommended that all new members seek the advice of an active member before making any purchase of clothing or equipment.

THE BASIC UNIFORM

U.S. issue SACK COAT, dark blue wool with four union buttons,
Inside breast pocket, lined or unlined $85.00

U.S. issue TROUSERS, sky-blue wool kersey with pewter or metal
Buttons, tie string waist adjustment in back, two pockets with no
Cuffs, $65.00

SUSPENDERS, cotton or liner (no elastic) $15.00

1860s period SHIRT, military or civilian patterns, white, colored
or checkered, $40.00

Knit wool SOCKS, gray, $10.00

Jefferson pattern BROGANS, ankle height, black leather with
heel plate, $95.00

U.S. issue FORAGE CAP, model 1861, dark blue wool, cotton
lining with leather brim and chin strap, $35.00
OR
SLOUCH HAT, black or gray. The addition of a hat cord is optional,
blue for infantry, $25.00 -$100.00

U.S. Springfield RIFLED MUSKET, Model 1861 with leather
sling, $460.00

BAYONET and SCABBARD for Model 1861 Springfield Rifled
Musket. Bayonet scabbard, U.S. pattern with copper rivets and
brass tip, $40.00

Regulation U.S. WAIST BELT with oval "U.S." brass buckle and
Keeper, $30.00

CAP POUCH, regulation U.S. issue with lambs wool inside,
$15.00

U.S. Infantry CARTRIDGE BOX, black leather with sling and brass
eagle breastplate, two tins and oval "U.S." plate on cartridge box
cover, $70.00

CANTEEN, smoothside, with canvas shoulder strap, blue wool cover,
with cork and chain, $40.00

U.S. pattern HAVERSACK, tarred canvas with button-in liner,

BLANKET, tan, gray wool blend with end stripes, $55.00

TENT, U.S. shelter half (Dog) tent. Two halves button together along
top to form a regulation size wedge tent, with two end flaps,

TENT STAKES, 8 needed, wrought iron square stock 10" long,

    There are many sutlers throughout the United States selling Civil War clothing, uniforms and equipment. The listed sutlers have provided good service to the members of the 21st Michigan. A more complete list of sutlers can be found on the Links page.
