Thomas,
John M. of Cannonsburg enlisted as Sergeant of Co. H at the regiment's
formation on 14 August 1862 at Cannonsburg for 3 years. His age at that
time is listed as 27. He mustered at Ionia with the regiment on 4 Sep 1862.
He is listed as sick ("since 25 Oct 1862 at Lebanon KY") for
October and November and again in January of 1863. He was discharged for
disability at Cincinatti Ohio on 7 Feb 1863.
Thomas,
William H. a private of Cannonsburg enlisted for 3 years at the original
regiment enrollement of 14 August 1862 at age 20 and mustered at Ionia
with the regiment on 4 Sep 1862. His official record is identical to that
of his brother John .. He is listed as sick ("since 25 Oct 1862 at
Lebanon KY") for October and November and again in January of 1863.
He was discharged for disability at Cincinatti Ohio on 7 Feb 1863.
Thomas, James L. a private of Cannonsburg enlisted
for 3 years at the original regiment enrollement of 14
August 1862 and mustered at Ionia with the regiment on
4 Sep 1862. Age 19. He is listed as sick ("since 4
November 1862 at Bowling Green KY) for the months of November
and December. The monthly record for February 1862 says
he "deserted at Bowling Green KY"
Thomas, Lewis D. Enlisted for 3 years as a Private
on 22 Jan 1864, age 17, at Grand Rapids. Personal description
as 5' 10 ½" hazel eyes, brown hair and fair
complexion; occupation - farmer. Mustered in April 1864,
joined the regiment at Chattanooga Tennessee on 6 April
1864. Transferred to Co. D 14th Michigan on 9 June 1865.
The official regimental service records indicate the following:
September 1862 - Left the regimental rendezvous at Ionia Michigan Sept 12 /62
proceeded by rail to Cincinnati O. Reached Cincinnati O Sept 14/62 went into
camp near Covington KY. September 18/62 proceeded by Steamer to Louisville
Ky at which place we arrived Sept 20/62 and remained in camp until the 30th
day of September 1862 - Lt. Weller
October 1862 - Oct 1st 1862 broke camp at Louisville KY and marched constantly
during the month of October and a distance of 259 miles was engaged at the
battle of Perryville KY Oct 8/62. - W.B. Wells, Ponsetts Knob KY
William H. Thomas left sick at Lebanon KY Oct 25 1862.
November 1862 - Regiment was encamped at Bowling Green Nov. 1st 1862 on the
4th we proceeded to Nashville stopped to guard Mitchellville Station were relieved
the 3rd day and proceede on the march to Nashville where we arrived on the
12th Nov. WEnt into camp and remained with the 24th when we broke camp and
removed 6 miles south of Nashville where we remain to date. - S.K. Bishop,

(Note .. according to the record, none of the Thomas brothers were with the
regiment when it left Bowling Green)
