Dear Brother Frank, Your letter and Mothers came to hand last night quite unexpected for I did not expect to get an answer to my first letter in less than two weeks and was trying to wait patiently until next Monday night fearing that I should not even get one then. There are some happy moments in a soldier’s life, none more so than when he hears from “Home Sweet Home” far away. I have had no fever now for 2 or 3 days but am very weak and cough and raise a good deal from my lungs. I do not remember of ever being so poor before. I can raise my shirt waistband buttoned clear to my shoulder. I have been outdoors a little the last two days. It will be a good while before I am able to go to the regt. and I should not wonder if they marched before long. I believe they expect to go to Chattanooga. In the letters you and Mother speak of writing, I have not received them, they are no doubt in Cap. Crowels cars. I have written and sent to him to send any letters that ma[y] come for me but guess I shall have to write again and enclose a stamp for postage. We have a good view of the city from here which presents the appearance of a huge pile of bricks of which nearly every building is built. The capitol makes a fine appearance occupying the highest ground in the city. There was quite a fire last night in sight of here burning several buildings. Fires are very frequent in the city lately. I cannot realize I am way down here is Tenn, so far away from home. It is three months last Monday morning since I said Good bye to you. We had a snow storm here yesterday. Snow an ince or two deep, but going off fast. I am sorry you didn’t get your house plastered before cold weather. I hope your plastering won’t freeze before it is dry. Was Marrit’s Mill got to working yet and have worked any there? Tell Eddie if I don’t come home pretty soon, I mean to some time, I don’t want him to forget me. Love to Carrie and the little ones. Write often. Yours truly, Chauncy
