Dear Brother and Sister, Your letters of 11th and 18th have been received and read with, much pleasure. It is now over 5 months since I left home and with the exception of the time spent in marching, the tine passed very quickly. I have been homesick but very little though I am anxiously looking forward to the time when I shall return home again. Our regt. has thinned out so that it is pretty small. CoL Stevens has resigned and has received his discharge. Lieut. Ellenwood has gone home. I presume you have seen him. Understand that Capt. Crowell will be here in a few days. I shall probably see him. Mooney has resigned and gone to NY. A number of our Co. are at the convalescent camp near here. George Cole is among them. I saw him a couple of weeks since. Loose is there too. I’m unwell at present. Cornelius VanLoo has been in command of the Co. since the fight. He is a vary smart fellow. Many soldiers are being discharged from the service. I think there are not but a few who would like to get discharged if they could. A great many officers have resigned. All seem to tired of war except our speculating generals. I hope to hear from you often. Good bye for this time. Love to the little ones. How I want to see you all. Your brother, Chauncy
