My dear Mother, I have at last recd that batch of letters which were sent to the Regt and yesterday I got the Independent of Dec. 2 all of which I have read with much interest. How much good it does me to hear from you so often. I shall look for that box of things by Monday next. I caught a hard cold in my head yesterday and felt quite sick last night but am feeling well this P.M. I hope to be well again after a while. I have applied for a situation here as nurse or cook and may be fortunate enough to get it. I hope I shall for I begin to feel the Rheumatism a little and I fear that the exposure of camp would be bad for me. I have just sold my gold pen for 52 cents and am going to send to N.Y. soon for one for you to use. I will use a steel one awhile and get me another gold one when I have an opportunity. If Emerson would like my accordion Philander may sell it to him for $2.50 and give me credit for the money. I presume Hiram would buy it for him if he wants it. He will learn to play it very soon. I would be glad to have him have it. Well this sheet is full and I must close. Good Bye. I hope that I shall hear from you again soon. Affectionately
your son
Dear Brother, I received your letter yesterday. I send $20.00 to you by Mr. Huff. You can keep the $9.00 that I owe you and hand the rest to Philander. We expect to leave tomorrow morning. I have $8.00 with me and shall get $2. more today. I should send more but I may have to buy a blanket. I am well. Love to all, Chauncy H. Peck
