Dear Brother, Enclosed you will find $20 which I wish you would hand to Philander. I send it in this as I expect to start for the Regt in the morning and do not wish to carry any more money than necessary. I did not get the situation here that I wished and had as [much] be with regt. as do the duty I am doing now. Besides the Colonel wants his men and I had rather go voluntarily than to be ordered there. And I want to see Capt. Crowell and VanLoo again. I send my photograph. Write and let me know what you think of it. I have put a box in the express today directed to Philander. It contains John Plumbs and my coats. We should not need them before October, and will not pay to lug them around [un]til then. There is a pair of mittens in it for you, and a few other traps. The enclosed receipt must be presented at the express office in Ionia when the box is called for. I am well at present except for a sore mouth. I received a letter from Mr. _____ a few days since and have answered it today. I shall write to Philander as soon as I get to Murfreesboro and send the rest of my money home. You need not Write until you hear from me. I shall go by RR distance 30 miles. I hope to be at home before I need my overcoat again. I should be glad to hear from you. Yours truly, Chauncy
