First Lieutenant Charles S. Brown

21st Michigan Adjutant

Brown, Charles S., Flint. Entered service Mar. 28, 1864, as Pvt. Co. K, 21st Inf. First Lieutenant and Adjutant, Sept. 1, 1864. Mustered out June 8, 1865, and honorably discharged.

A resident of Flint, Mich., before and after the war, Charles S. Brown joined his new regiment in Chattanooga, Tenn., during late April. By the time he arrived, the regiment had been organized 30 months and seen battle at Perryville, Chickamauga, Stones River, and Chattanooga. Just five months after joining the regiment, Brown was promoted to 1st lieutenant and Regimenal Adjutant. During his brief time in service, the 21st Michigan saw battle in Savannah, Ga.; Averasboro, N.C.; and Bentonville, N.C.
