Sherman's Carolinas Campaign

Battle of Bentonville, North Carolina
March 19-21, 1865    

The Battle of Bentonville was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which the Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This is the largest battle fought in North Carolina and was the only significant attempt to defeat the Union Army of Major General William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865.
