Fort Wayne Living History

Historic Fort Wayne
6235 W. Jefferson Avenue
Detroit, Michigan 48209

The 7th Michigan Volunteer Infantry, Co. B and the Detroit Historical Museum will again be hosting a few events at Historic Fort Wayne located in Detroit, Michigan. The 82-acre site includes the 156 year-old star-shaped fort, sally ports, dry moat, tunnels, powder magazine, 1848 barracks, Commandant’s house, and a 12-acre riverfront parade ground. All branches of Union military and civilians are invited to attend. Troops are strongly encouraged to bring tentage and camp equipage since this is a garrison impression. Modern camping is available (no hookups). The usual amenities of wood, water, and portajohns will be provided. Access to the fort is 24x7 for re-enactors only. All proceeds are to be used for preservation and restoration of the fort complex. Please notify me if you wish to be excluded from my mailing list for fort events this year or if there is a single point of contact I should use for your unit. Please feel free to contact me at (517) 669-5607, email tjemerick@attbi.com if you require additional information.

Military participants:
“Union militia” is being added to those impressions permitted at this event. This involves portrayal of troops in civilian or early war uniform issue who are being mustered in at the fort. If you plan to attend as militia, please be sure to indicate so in your registration so we can brigade you with similar units. Infantry will be performing guard duty at the two fort entrances and will be challenging re-enactors and spectators throughout each day. Following are some of the military activities we are planning:

• Artillery demonstrations
• Battalion Parade
• Drill (School of the Soldier, School of the Company, skirmish, battalion,
